New Drone Video Shows Construction Work at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory

Posted on July 27, 2020 by admin

Tesla revealed this week that it had selected a place in Austin, Texas for its Gigafactory. The firm had to navigate through a several month process to secure governmental approval and now it’s planning on moving fast for the construction.

Construction is already underway at the 2,000-acre (809-hectare) site. The property is Tesla’s biggest piece of land to date for a new manufacturing facility. Tesla plans to use it to build Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, and Tesla Semi trucks.
No official timelines have been released yet concerning the production of its vehicles at the new factory, but rumors have circulated talking of some very ambitious targets.
Electrek had reported that CEO Elon Musk aimed to bring the new factory close to the city of Austin and that he aimed to have Model Y vehicles coming out of the plant by the end of the year. This is an even more ambitious timeline than Gigafactory Shanghai.
Electrek also revealed that Tesla would aim to only have a general assembly line ready on that timeline and continue building the rest of the factory while the assembly lines are operational. Thus they will increase the production capacity of different parts in the following year.
A drone video of the site released yesterday shows heavy machinery preparing for the construction. Tesla seems to be starting work next to the highway indicating the factory might indeed be close to the city of Austin.
The video is an impressive reminder of Musk’s ambition and dedication for getting things done well and fast. No doubt that this factory will be built super fast. Hopefully, we will also be privy to more drone videos as time goes by.
