An 80-year-old man who attended a religious gathering in Malaysia died on Monday of COVID-19 in Narathiwat province, according to the provincial officials.
The man would be the 58th victim of COVID-19 deaths in Thailand. He died at Narathiwat Rajanakarin Hospital, three months after returning from a Muslim gathering in Malaysia where many contracted the coronavirus.
He had been the 38th case detected in the country.
Four family members who had been in contact with him were admitted to a hospital after they were found to have been infected of COVID-19. Three of the four are still undergoing treatment.
He’s the second Narathiwat resident to die of COVID-19. Another man from the same province became the fifth pandemic fatality in late March after attending the same Islamic missionary gathering.
More than 130 people, most residents of the southernmost provinces, were diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning home from the event attended by nearly 15,000 Muslim missionaries in Selangor, Malaysia.
